Forgotten Remote Desktop Credentials for Server 2008 / Server 2008 R2 »

If you’re like me, you use RDP all of the time and you’ve probably got tons of RDP icons with the passwords saved in each one so that you can quickly bounce into all of the servers that you are managing.

If you’ve upgraded to Windows 7 as your workstation OS, you’ve probably also noticed that those RDP connections are now no longer remembering your passwords for connections that connect to Windows Server 2008 or Server 2008 R2.

Here is how you can resolve this problem:

1. Click on Start, and then in the search bar type: gpedit.msc

2. Expand Computer Configuration, Expand Administrative Templates, Expand System, Expand Credentials Delegation.

3. Double Click on “Allow Delegating Default Credentials with NTLM-only Server Authentication“.

4. Click the “Show…” button, Enter the following: TERMSRV/*

5. Click OK, to close the Show Contents Window, Click OK again to close the next window.

6. Click on Start, and then in the search bar type: GPUPDATE

You’ll now be able to save credentials into RDP connections for Server 2008 / 2008 R2 connections.

How to Uninstall DropBox »

Dropbox is a file hosting service which offers file synchronization, cloud storage and client software solutions. It provides users with the facility to create exclusively designated folders on each of their computers, after which Dropbox synchronizes them, so that they appear to be same folder with same contents on every computer chosen to view it.

Now, if you’re looking to uninstall Dropbox [It’s a little tough to understand how and why you jumped to make this decision], know that the application would remove “Dropbox” from your computer completely. Upon removal, the Dropbox menu will no longer appear + it will no longer sync the files in your Dropbox folder i.e. your file hosting service will effectively reach its end.

Here is a detailed analysis specific to different OS:

  1. For Windows Vista or Windows 7:
  2. Open the “Control Panel” from the “Start” Menu.
  3. Under the “Programs” section, select the “Uninstall a program” option.

1. Select “Dropbox” from the list of programs appearing in front of you, and click “Uninstall”.

Your Dropbox application has been successfully uninstalled.

  1. For Windows 8:
  2. On the “Start” screen, type “Control Panel” and click on it.
  3. Under the “Programs” sub-section, select the “Uninstall a program” option.
  4. From the list of options laid out in front of you, choose “Dropbox” and the uninstallation process would be completed in a matter of minutes.

How to remove files from your Dropbox Folder:

Even after the uninstallation process is culminated, your Dropbox files would still be existing in your designated folder. Now, they can stay there if you want them to. But if you want to remove them as well, all you need to do is a simple drag-and-drop into the Recycle bin.

Dropbox removal for advanced user [Removing “Settings” Files]:

Uninstalling Dropbox using the above-lying steps will remove the application from your hard drive only. Additionally, you can also clean Dropbox “settings files” from your “Application Data” folder.

Here’s how:

1. In any “Windows Explorer” window [The program that you use to view files on your computer], type or copy-paste the following code in the “location bar” found at the top of the window and press “Return”:

This will take you to your “Application Data” folder.

2. Move the “Dropbox” folder to the Recycle Bin.

So, your Dropbox has been successfully uninstalled from your computer. Congratulations!

Receiving Error – 12,0 While Opening Company File »

So you’re getting an error – 12,0 while opening the company file and QuickBooks is asking you for the administrator permission.

Noteworthy Points –

1) sure the user attempting to open the file has Administrative rights

2) The Quickbooks service is stopped.

Solution –

1) Check the Quickbooks version.

  • Suppose the customer is accessing Quicbooks 13.0, the service would be QBDataserviceuser23.0
  • Go to Services.msc and check if the service mentioned above is stopped or in running state.
  • Run > Services.msc > QBDataserviceuser23
  • Right click on QBDataserviceuser23 and go to properties, and start the service if it is stopped.
  • Retry opening the company file and if the issue persists, try the next steps.

2) Check the permissions on the folder which contains that company file.

  • Right click on Client Data > Properties > click Security tab > check if the user has the permission to access the file or not.
  • Supposedly, if the user doesn’t have permission to access the folder, give him the necessary permission and retry opening the company file.

QuickBooks Windows Administrator Permission Issue »

One of the issues while working with QuickBooks is the Windows Administrator Permission issue. This is encountered while trying to open the company file through QuickBooks. What might be happening in the background of the application is that the services responsible for initiating one of the QuickBooks .exe (or executable) file would be failing to do so. In order to re-initiate QuickBooks authentication from an Administrator or a user with Administrative privileges and in the absence of the same, an error is displayed.

Following can the reasons to why this error shows up:

1) QBDB2x service has stopped triggering the .EXE file. To restart the same the Startup type should be:

  • Automatic (How is explained later).
  • A batch file with the script to trigger the QBDB2x services and QBCFMonitor Services (How is again explained later)

2) QBDB2x permissions are not provided to the specific folder of the corresponding company file.

3) Simultaneous presence of QuickBooks Enterprise and other QuickBooks edition of the same year. The database for QuickBooks editions for the same year is common usually but in case of QuickBooks Enterprise, a separate folder is created. This would not be an issue as QBDB24 is still pointing to the same file for the program data is common whereas in case of Enterprise this needs a switch due to uncommon program data file. In order to switch this needs Administrative user permissions and hence the error.

1) By typing services.msc on Run (Windows+R) we can search for QBDB2x service and change the Startup type to “Automatic” from Manual.

Refresh the service. [NOTE: Restarting the service is stopping and starting the service. This will affect all the logged in users.]

2) Locate the folder for the corresponding company file and check if the corresponding QBDB2x user has the access to that folder. This can be achieved by clicking on the properties of the folder and visiting the Security tab. Edit and add the user QBDB2x, provide full permissions. Further details on permissions can be found in Permissions article.

3) Provide Administrative privileges to all the users who use these applications.

The script batch file consists of the following commands:

net start QuickBooksDB2x // Triggers the QBDB service of the respective year 20xx

net start QBCFMonitorService // Triggers the QBCFMonitor service

TIMEOUT <in seconds> // Timeout value.

4) The above batch (saved as name.bat) file has to added to task scheduler tasks. The user account can QBUser which can be created with Administrator privileges and common password mentioned in the description.

5) Options to be checked in General Tab:

  • Run whether user is logged on or not
  • Run with highest privileges
  • Hidden

6) Options to be checked in Triggers Tab:

  • Begin the task “At log on”
  • Any user
  • Repeat task every 5 minutes.
  • Duration: Indefinitely
  • Check “Enabled”

7) Under actions, add the respective batch file by clicking on New.

The presence of an Administrator resolves the issue of this error and hence somehow the same needs to be ensured through permissions or scripting.

QuickBooks Version Conflict – Enterprise Vs Premier Vs Pro »

Issue: User is getting a ‘Window admin permission’ error while using QuickBooks despite adding the necessary script to restart the QuickBooks service and acquiring the proper permissions.

QuickBooks can brag about a myriad of versions, all effective in truth. Sometimes, to make the best of all worlds, users might install different version on the same server/computer, and that might totally inhibit their progress altogether. As they say, excess of everything is bad.

Note – This is the case where QuickBooks enterprise is already installed on the computer and the user installs any one out of QuickBooks premier / QuickBooks pro (same year as that of QuickBooks Enterprise) as well or vice-versa.

Example – We have installed QuickBooks Pro 2013 on the server while QuickBooks Enterprise 2013 is already installed on the same server.

Reason: If you check the QuickBooksDB service corresponding to its year and right click on it, you will get the location of your QuickBooks Database.

By default, it is located in the “Intuit” folder which is a sub-part of the “Program data” folder found in the C Drive [Which can either be accessed through the desktop or through the “My Computer” option].

Note – C:/ProgramData/Intuit.

Now, in the case of QuickBooks enterprise, there is different folder i.e. QuickBooks enterprise solution 13.0 which is same in case of QuickBooks Premier and QuickBooks Pro i.e. QuickBooks File Manager 13.0.

So, this causes massive ambiguity as there is no proper segregation.

Option 1: While using QuickBooks, since the standard user is unable to switch between these two different folders, what you can do is provide admin rights to all users. This will mitigate the problem right from its root.

Option 2: Install QuickBooks Enterprise on a different server rather the one on which QuickBooks Premier or QuickBooks Pro is installed.

The latter is the recommended solution in my opinion. If you can get access to a separate server or a separate desktop, why not utilize it for a different QB version, rather than facing issues and lags by employing both the versions on the same desktop.

QuickBooks Update – Unknown Error »

As the topic suggests, you’re in the middle of a business critical migration, and your process is met with an error, status or description of which is completely unknown. Such hindrances are bound to affect the company in a negative manner. QuickBooks updates don’t come easy and the process is cumbersome, to say the least.

So, if you’re stuck with an anonymous error, below is the protocol which you need to follow:

To reach the roots of this issue and find its remedy, you’ll need to verify your Internet Security & Firewall settings, Microsoft Internet Explorer settings, and system date-time settings.

1. To verify/modify Internet security and personal firewall settings:]

  • Refer to your Internet security and firewall software documentation for instructions on how to adjust the configuration [Including port settings] for a seamless QuickBooks update process.
  • Strictly verify that the two underlying QuickBooks files have been given the download and update access through your firewall security software:

qbw32.exe [QuickBooks executable file] and qbupdate.exe [QuickBooks update executable file]

  • Verify that port 80 and port 443 aren’t disabled.

Note: Due to the complexity and the variety of available systems and the respective software, exact solutions are a little hard to find. For further assistance, please contact your system or network administrator, the vendor you purchased the firewall software from, or a local PC consultant.

2. To verify Microsoft Internet Explorer settings:

  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Select the “Tools” menu and choose the “Internet options” button.
  • Click on the “Advanced” tab.
  • Scroll down to the “Security” section.
  • Select the options “Use SSL 2.0 & Use SSL 3.0”.
  • Click on the “Ok” button.

To verify the system date-time settings:

  • Right-click on the time display on the system tray of your Windows taskbar, typically located at the lower right corner of your screen.
  • Select the “Adjust Date/Time” option.
  • Set the correct date & time [Make a note of the year as well].
  • Click on the “Ok” button.

These are all the steps which might help you to solve the ‘random’ error that has occurred while you were operating QuickBooks. Good luck!

It takes care of the monetary face of companies with seamless ease by drastically cutting down organizational expenditure at all levels.

With features such as customizable reports, robust user security, seamless migration/up gradation, network friend, enlarged data capacity and an easy-to-use interface, QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions has garnered an unparalleled stature in the financial market as of today.

In a nutshell, you don’t need to be a rocket scientist in order to access this particular QB version on a daily basis. Moreover, you can successfully carry the setup/installation operation without any external professional assistance. Here’s a quick sneak peak how:

Step 1:

  • Start the Installation Wizard
  • From the download link – Double click on the installed file with the “.exe” file extension.
    [“.exe=executable file].

Step 2: To proceed further, click on the “Next” button to commence the installation process.

Step 3:

The next step is the SLA. For those of you who don’t quite know what an SLA is, I’ll give you a concise description.

  • An SLA is a formal service contract between the client and the service provider which defines the service in all its entirety.
  • If you go by my recommendation, you should leave no stone unturned when it comes to this in normal cases. But, we are talking about Intuit here, so you don’t need to sweat on it.
  • Post reading, tick the box which states “I accept the terms of license agreement”.

Step 4:

Select the “Installation Type” for the designated computer.

P.S. – You can get more knowledge on these installation types from the “Help Topic” after you click the “Explain these options” button in the “Detail” link.

Here are the underlying options available:

  1. “I’ll be using QuickBooks on this computer” – Choose this option if you want to use QuickBooks on the computer in question without having the company file stored in it.
  2. “I’ll be using QuickBooks on this computer & I’ll be storing our company file here, so it can be shared over our network” – Choose this option if you want to access your QuickBooks on the computer via RDP Connection [Remote Desktop Connection]. Moreover, the company file will be stored so it can be shared over the network.
  3. “I will not be using QuickBooks on this computer. I will be storing our company file here so it can be shared over the network (A license is not required for this option).” – Choose this option if no one is supposed to use QuickBooks on the designated computer; which will be used as a server to share the company file with multiple workstations [Which have QuickBooks installed] over the network.

Step 5: Click on “Next” when you have made your selection.

  • By default, the custom and network options will have the “Current Settings” installed from any older version of QuickBooks installed on the computer. In such a case, choose the second option of “I’ll be using QuickBooks on this computer & I’ll be storing our company file here so it can be shared over our network.”
  • However, if QuickBooks is installed on the computer for the first time, there would be no reference to a current setting.

Step 6: Enter the license and the product numbers in the appropriate fields.

  • These license and product numbers appear on the yellow sticker [Refer to the image above] that comes with your QB product or in the e-mail if you’ve purchased it online.
  • If you have previously registered your product, use the link at the bottom of the screen “I can’t find these numbers to go online” and enter your contact information.

Step 7: Furthermore, just before clicking the “Install” button, you have the ability to change the location where your QuickBooks will be installed in the system by clicking the “Browse” button.

Note: The option “Replace the version selected below with the version I’m installing now” appears only if the installer detects a previous installation of QuickBooks in the system.

However, if you’re not sure which option you need to select, click the “Explain these options” in the details link at the bottom for detailed information.

Step 8: I am happy to announce that you’ve reached the end and all you need to do now, is click the “Install” button.

P.S. – If you would like to have shortcuts for the services that we offer and the respective support options, check the “Add services and support shortcuts” option.

Final Confirmation – Quickbooks will display the following message when the installation will be completed:

Note – By default, the checkboxes “Open QuickBooks” and “Help me get started” will be selected. You can modify these options prior to clicking the Finish button.

There you have it then! Your QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 10.0 has been successfully installed and ready to use.
